Some major characters from the show were killed in season 1 including Lajjo (Richa Chadha), Bibbojaan (Aditi Rao Hydari), Nawab Tajdar Baloch (Taha Shah Badusha), Alastair Cartwright (Jason Shah) and Samuel Henderson (Mark Bennington). Hence, what we deduced from the season 2 announcement is that Manisha Koirala will be returning as Mallikajaan, Sonakshi Sinha as Fareedan, Sharmin Segal as Alamzeb, and Sanjeeda Sheikh as Waheeda. Along with them, Farida Jalal, Indresh Malik, Jayati Bhatia, Nivedita Bhargava, Pratibha Ranta, Anju Mahendru, Abhishek Deswal and Ujjwal Chopra are also likely to reunite with the cast.
What will Heeramandi season 2 be about?
Season 1 of the Netflix series left many questions unanswered and it is believed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali will be giving the answers to these questions in part 2 of the period drama. The main focus could be on the life of Alamzeb after she kills Cartwright and the future of the other tawaifs of Shahi Mahal.
Bansali told Variety, “In Heeramandi 2, the women now come from Lahore to the film world. They leave Lahore after the partition and most of them settle in the Mumbai film industry or Kolkata film industry. So that journey in the bazaar remains the same. They still have to dance and sing, but this time for the producers and not for the nawabs. So that’s the second season we are planning, let’s see where it goes.”
